Giorgia Riboni (Università di Torino  | Dipartimento di Lingue, Letterature Straniere e Culture Moderne)

Giorgia Riboni holds a PhD in English Studies from the Università degli Studi di Milano and works as an English Language and Linguistics Lecturer at the Università di Torino.

Her research interests lie mainly in the field of discourse analysis, with particular regard to new media communication. In her studies, the qualitative methods characteristic of discourse analysis are often integrated with the quantitative research typical of corpus linguistics and combined with other theoretical tools; her approach can therefore be defined as multi-method.

In the course of her research activity, she has investigated a variety of linguistic-discursive areas and different types of specialized communication: political discourse, marketing discourse, academic discourse and the discourse of emerging professional identities. She has published a series of studies devoted to discursive constructions in these domains, often exploring the interface between medium and discourse as well. More recently, her research interests have expanded to include parenthood and adoption discourse and the metaphorical representations of adoptive families in both new and old media contexts.

She is a member of the Italian Association of English Studies (AIA), The Corpus and Linguistic Variation In English Research (CLAVIER), the Inter-University Research Center on Metaphors (CIRM) and the Inter-University Research Center on Identity, Language and Diversity (I-LanD). She is also a member of the editorial board of Iperstoria, recognized by Italy's ANVUR as a “Fascia A” journal.
